Unusual Pattern of Antibodies to Human T-cell Leukemia Virus Type-I in Family Members

چکیده
Detection methods for the human T-cell leukemia virus type-I (HTLV-I) for blood screening and diagnosis generally rely on antibody tests that use the structural proteins of HTLV-I as antigen. We have found an unusual pattern of antibody reactivity among people who are at high risk of HTLV infection due to being a family member of an adult T-cell leukemia (ATL) patient: a specific antibody reaction exclusively directed to the HTLV regulatory protein fax, and not to the HTLV-I structural proteins. Sera from 7 of 82 (8.5%) structural antibody-undetectable family members of ATL patients had the anti-fax reactivity. Two seroconverters were observed. One seroconverter a healthy resident of Miyazaki, tested negative for structural antibody, but positive for tax

متن کاملThe Enigma of Human T-Cell Leukemia Virus Type-1 (HTLV-1) Infection in Iran
Human T-cell lymphotropic virus type-I (HTLV-I) was the first human retrovirus associated with malignancy. The prevalence of HTLV-I infection varies significantly in different regions of the world. In this study, the prevalence of HTLV-I infection among ethnic Jews living in Shiraz, South of Iran, was investigated. 286 blood samples were obtained. HTLV-1 antibody assay on serum samples was d...
متن کاملHuman T Lymphotropic Virus Type I (HTLV-I) Oncogenesis: Molecular Aspects of Virus and Host Interactions in Pathogenesis of Adult T cell Leukemia/Lymphoma (ATL)
The study of tumor viruses paves the way for understanding the mechanisms of virus pathogenesis, including those involved in establishing infection and dissemination in the host tumor affecting immune-compromised patients. The processes ranging from viral infection to progressing malignancy are slow and usually insufficient for establishment of transformed cells that develop cancer in only ...

Background: The human T-cell lymphotropic virus type I is the first retrovirus idenfied in humans. The virus has been associated with adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma, human T-lymphotropic virus type I, myelopathy/tropical spasc paraparesis, uveis, arthris, pulmonary lymphocyc alveolis, keratoconjuncvis sicca, and infecous dermas. Human T-lymphotropic virus type Iis endemic in Japan...
متن کاملHigh incidence of human type-C retrovirus (HTLV) in family members of a HTLV-positive Japanese T-cell leukemia patient.
Sera and peripheral blood cells of an adult T-cell leukemia patient and several clinically normal members of his family from the northwest coast of Japan were examined for evidence of infection with human T-cell leukemia (lymphoma) virus (HTLV). The sera of the patient and his parents had antibodies to HTLV, whereas these antibodies were absent in the sera of the patient's brother and sister. T...
